Essentially, biodynamic farming and gardening looks upon the soil and the farm as living organisms. It regards maintenance and furtherance of soil life with all its aspects, as a basic necessity if the soil is to be preserved for future generations and give plants the possibility to grow healthy, which again gives us human beings healthy food.

Farm manure and compost are the most valuable fertilizers. They contain organic matter on which the soil bacteria and earthworms can feed and then revitalize the soil. They contain colloids, which absorb moisture and mineral- and organic substance in the ground, form a crumbly structure, and eliminate the danger of erosion. The careful storage of manure in covered heaps, as taught by the biodynamic method, avoids nitrogen loss to a great degree and will build up humus in the soil.
In Jøssasen we do Biodynamic Farming, that means we do not use chemicals but we use products from the farm and feed them back in the land. This is good for the restoration of life to the farming land. We do crop rotation, manuring with the compost that we specially make with the help of healing herbs. Biodynamic farming is a therapeutic way of working with the land. It is a cycle that keeps life going, cultivating a meaningful relationship between man and earth. This means land is treated as a living part of our lives and great respect is due to it for without it, life is incomplete and the cycle is broken.

Benefits of biodynamic farming can be seen in the quality of the produce, the health of land and livestock, and the freedom from environmental problems increasingly generated by many modern farming methods.
